CANNABIS AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

How to lower the risks to your mental health from frequent cannabis use

Do you use cannabis daily or near-daily? If so, be aware that it can have negative effects on your mental health, including developing or worsening anxiety and depression.

Here are some ways you can lower the risks to your mental health.

Most importantly, avoid daily or near-daily cannabis use. The effects on mental health and brain function over time are greatest if you use cannabis this frequently.

Choose products with lower levels of THC. The higher the THC, the more likely you are to experience harms related to mental health and brain function. Products with over 10 per cent or 10 milligrams of THC are considered high.

Reflect on your cannabis use and evaluate your relationship with it. Reducing or stopping cannabis use can reverse some or all its effects and can help improve your long-term mental health and brain function.
